The truth about Botox

lifestyle wellness Jul 05, 2020

Ok. Let's get real. BOTOX. We hear it all the time, but everyone's so secretive about it. Well, I'm here to change the tune and be 100% real with you guys. I have been getting Botox since I was 25, and I have no shame. For me, it's all about being preventative, which is why I started young.

I remember the first time I noticed the number 11 in my forehead above my nose. Those two little parallel lines were all bound to get when we make an angry face. I was driving, and someone cut me off, and I had a moment of anger before I took a deep breath. I had tilted it earlier to check my makeup, and as I looked up into it, I spotted that ugly little number 11. Right after that, I went to my mom and asked her all about Botox cause I knew she got it. She was super honest with me and told me it was really painless and honestly no big deal. So I cross-checked what she said with my dermatologist, and she said the same! So very quickly there after I made an appointment and now I've been going for the last 5 years every 4 to 6 months!

So on to the topic of wedding Botox. I've done a lot of research on finding the right person. I've been to people in Vegas who have given me one eyebrow higher than the other and had to go to someone in LA get it fixed, so trust me, I've been around the block. Finally, I heard about Shona at Anson Edwards and Higgins from a friend of mine; she said she is THE BEST, but she takes forever to get in to. At the time, I was still breastfeeding, so I decided to call and make an appointment eight weeks out. Let me tell you it was so worth it! It was quick, painless, and the results were better than anyone I had been to in the past, even the doctors in LA. She's been doing this forever and has clients from 8 AM - 6 PM Monday through Friday. So whoever you decide to book with, make sure they are experienced.

So, moving on, I had her inject my number 11 and some of the other heavier lines that have naturally started on my forehead. I had her go super light because I don't want that crazy frozen forehead look. This is actually called baby Botox because the doctor uses a small needle and a smaller amount!

My experience with Botox has always been positive, and there is no shame in my game about getting it. I always get lots of questions about why I get it done if I'm such a big believer in wellness, and I truly believe that the two don't have to be mutually exclusive. You can want to prevent aging and be ok with doing Botox. I want to prevent aging as much as possible, and I've done a lot of research on what Botox is and the rare potential side effects. The amount of toxin that is injected is so small it could never actually hurt you, plus it's a naturally occurring substance, not chemical. For me, that makes it worth it!

COMMON QUESTIONS I CAN ANSWER:

WHERE ALL DO YOU GET BOTOX?

Yes, forehead is the only place I do it. Not even around my eyes cause I don’t need it there. I want it to look as natural as possible. I want to prevent those lines on my forehead from getting deeper so that’s the only place I do.

DOES IT HURT?

It doesn’t hurt. I promise, it’s really just little pinches like 4-6 times across the forehead and you’re in and out in 15 minutes. Obviously if it’s your first time you’ll want to spend a little time with your doctor to tell them exactly what you want

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SEE RESULTS?

It usually takes 1-2 weeks for the product to kick in and actually see results so don’t freak if you don’t notice a result right away

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

It costs anywhere from $200-$400 depending on where you go

WHAT IS THE RECOVERY LIKE?

Afterwards no laying down, bending over or working out for the rest of the day. If you’re worried about bruising avoid fish oil and and blood thinners 2 weeks before
