Social Media is a Trigger Minefield—Here’s how I’m navigating it differently

Jul 08, 2025
I just came back from a much-needed break from social media, and wow. Within minutes of logging back on, I was hit with an avalanche of bikini shots, diet ads, “summer shred” programs, and nonstop chatter about GLP-1s, fasted workouts, and protein macros.

It reminded me just how loud and triggering social media can be, especially when it comes to our bodies.

Even though I’ve done a lot of work to heal my relationship with my body, that doesn’t mean I’m immune to feeling triggered. I still have those moments where a reel or post catches me off guard, makes me question my body, or stirs up old insecurities.

The difference now is:
I know how to recognize the trigger
I don’t internalize the message
And I don’t feel the urge to buy into the cleanse or diet that’s designed to make me feel like I’m not enough

Because let’s be honest: social media isn’t just about health anymore—it’s about an unattainable obsession with thinness, perfection, and control. And the line between “wellness” and “restriction” is getting dangerously blurry.

Yes, there are ways we can support and optimize our hormones.

Yes, we can feel more energized, balanced, and strong.
But no, that does not require constant striving, shrinking, or self-punishment.

A few questions for you to reflect on today:
  • How do you feel in your body after spending 10 minutes scrolling social media?
  • What kinds of posts make you feel empowered? Which ones leave you feeling not good enough?
  • Are you consuming content that supports your health goals—or sabotages your self-worth?

A little tip for navigating the noise:

Curate your feed like you would your home—only keep what feels safe, nourishing, and supportive. Mute or unfollow accounts that leave you feeling drained, and follow more creators who remind you that your worth is not tied to your weight.
